One of the most common groups of exercises during pregnancy is the hip opening exercises. The hips and pelvis are the most affected during pregnancy, they need to prepare for childbirth by widening and becoming more flexible. While doing so they also take the weight of the growing foetus. All together this brings about many structural changes. It is very common that these structural changes result in pain and discomfort around the hip, pelvis and lower back area. Sometimes this may hinder simple daily tasks and affect the quality of life of pregnant women.
These hip opening exercises help to bring about balance around this area, relaxing the joints and promoting better stability. Ideally they are daily, possibly even twice. Doing them before bedtime has also proven to provide better quality of sleep to those who experience night discomfort. Give it a go for a few days and let yourself relax into this short stretch.
